BOOKS:
Baum, Neil and Henkel, Gretchen. Marketing Your Clinical Practice. Gaithersburg, MD: Aspen Publishers Inc., 2000. An interesting book on marketing a sub-specialty practice, but applicable to primary care as well.
Burgos, Marilyn, et al. Medical Billing and and Coding Demystified. New York, NY: McGraw Hill, 2007. Very basic starter book.
Capko, Judy. Secrets of the Best Run Practices. Phoenix, MD: Greenbranch Publishing, 2006. Good tips, occasionally presents physicians as obstructionist lone rangers.
Dahl, Owen. Think Business! Medical Practice Quality, Efficiency, Profits. Phoenix, MD: Greenbranch Publishing, 2007. Overall, good explanations on the financial management of a practice, but the example of a shampoo company misses the mark.
Gerber, Michael. The E Myth Revisited: Why Most Small Businesses Don’t Work and What to Do About it. New York, NY: HarperCollins Publishers, 1995. A classic. Much better than The E Myth Physician.
Marcinko, David (ed). The Business of Medical Practice. (Second Edition). New York NY: Springer Publishing Company Inc., 2004. In depth analysis of the finances of a medical practice. Probably more than you will need to know, but the chapters on cash flow are priceless.
O’berry, Denise. Small Business Cash Flow. Hoboken, NJ: John Wiley and Sons, 2007. A simple book, but explains cash flow projections and why it is so important.
Zaslove, Marshall. The Successful Physician. Sudbury, MA: Jones and Bartlett Publishers, 1998. A great book to help you become more efficient and enjoy practice more.
